Cataract Surgeon Qualifications

 

Only qualified doctors are allowed to participate in Cataract Free America®..

 

Minimum Requirements

Not every doctor who can do cataract surgery is allowed to participate in the Cataract Free America® program to provide free and no out-of-pocket expense cataract surgery to seniors. Below are the minimum requirements for participating cataract surgeons.

  • Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.

  • Approved by Medicare to provide medical services.

  • Performs cataract surgery in a Medicare approved facility.

  • Performing cataract surgery for more than three years.

  • Performed more than 200 cataract surgeries.

  • Performed at least 75 cataract surgeries within the last year.

  • Offers high technology premium presbyopia correcting intraocular lenses.

  • Willing to donate services to patients referred through Cataract Free America®.
