Eligibility for Cataract Surgery at No Cost To You

The potential $3,000 to $600 out-of-pocket expense of cataract surgery may be waived, even if you have Medicare.

 

Mission: Save Your Money

The mission of Cataract Free America® is to help seniors be free of vision limitations caused by cataracts, even if the $3,000 to $600 out-of-pocket expense is keeping them from seeking required cataract surgery.

Doctors, surgery centers, and hospitals have agreed to provide cataract related services with reduced out-of-pocket expense for patients referred through Cataract Free America®. Benefits are determined by the patient's fiscal circumstances and existing insurance coverage. See also Cataract Free America® Benefits

If the $3,000 to $600 out-of-pocket expense is keeping you from seeking required cataract surgery, then you undoubtedly will qualify for one or more of the Cataract Free America® senior benefits.

There is nothing to join, no membership fees, no obligation to receive additional medical services, and no cost to patients for services provided by Cataract Free America®.

Patients will receive advanced notification of any out-of-pocket expenses anticipated from medical services not included through Cataract Free America®.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age 65 or older
  • United States citizen
  • Refraining from receiving cataract care due to the $3,000 to $600 out-of-pocket expense.
  • Household income from employment* less than:
    • $20,800 for a one person household
    • $28,000 for a two person household
    • $35,200 for a household of three or more

    *Only income from employment is calculated. Income from investments, retirement, Social Security, etc. is not considered. If individual is retired with only income from investments, retirement, and/or Social Security, then income from employment is zero.

    Eligibility income is based upon 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, Fed. Reg. Vol. 73, No. 15, January 23, 2008, pp. 3971–3972.

Eligibility Exclusions

  • Beneficiary of a Veterans Administration healthcare plan
  • Beneficiary of a restricted Medicare Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)
  • Have the ability to pay out-of-pocket expenses without restriction

Final determination of need for waiver of any or all amounts is made by Cataract Free America® participating healthcare providers on a case-by-case basis. Eligibility requirements may be changed at any time with no prior notification.
